Back in 2010, Paul Scheer and I produced “Dharma Station: UCB,” a comedy show dedicated to the season finale of LOST on the night before the finale aired. I was working for ABC at the time, creating any of the strange, off-kilter marketing opportunities you may have seen for the show during its final season. I know, I can’t believe that was a job either. So, we had simultaneous comedy shows in both LA and NY take place and they were both insane.
Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, the show’s creators sat in the audience for the LA show, as comedians like Scheer, Ben Schwartz, Rob Huebel, Chelsea Peretti, Garfunkel & Oates, Adam Pally, Chris Hardwick, Adam Scott, Kevin Pollack, Tom Lennon and so, so many others did bits alongside stars of the show. We got Harold Perrineau (Michael), Nestor Carbonell (Richard Alpert), William Mapother (Ethan), Titus Welliver (The Man In Black) and Kim Dickens (Cassidy) all to participate in sketches, and every writer, plus Allison Janney (Mother), was in the audience. We even built this huge UCB Dharma logo for the wall, which they kept up for years. You can even still see the names of “others” that someone drew in chalk on the green room door for the night. Keep in mind, the WORLD was constantly talking about LOST that week, and we were really the only people in the world who actually had the cast & crew out and about having fun with it. All in a theater with just 100 seats. It wasn’t streamed or Periscoped or anything. That could never happen again.
This night was really the first comedy event I ever produced and was one of the catalysts to get me writing jokes again. I had so much fun and am so thankful for UCB, and Damon Lindelof / Carlton Cuse, giving me that opportunity, and every one they’ve given me since. Happy 10th Anniversary.
